New SLU VC pledges commitment to staff welfare, conducive environment for students

Prof Muhammad Ibrahim-Yakasai, the new Vice-Chancellor (VC), Sule Lamido University (SLU) Kafinhausa, Jigawa, has pledged to implement policies that will promote staff welfare for effective service delivery.

Ibrahim-Yakasai made the pledge while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after receiving his appointment letter from Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse on Thursday.

“My first priority will be staff welfare and development. This is because the university was build on vision and mission so first priority is to uphold the mission and vision. And of course the creation of teaching and learning environment cannot be achieved if you don’t have motivated workforce.

“These are the people I will work with to uplitf the university further. So my first priority is staff development and welfare,” Muhammad-Yakadai said.

He explained that the gesture was to motivate the staff to each students well, thereby producing quality graduates.

The VC further pledged to provide conducive environment for students in order to ensure that hich free learning process.

“Provision of adequate learning environment is the issue, the psychologist says restructure the environment and the learner will learn even if he is not willing to learn.

“So part of my priorities is also the provision of adequate learning environment and motivating the staff that are going to teach and handle the students, so these are my areas of concern,” the VC added.

Ibrahim-Yakasai also assured that he has what it takes to take the university to the next level.

“I cannot claim that I’m the best, but certainly I have the capability and experience as I worked in many other areas of academic and administration. So I feel that will give enough chance to work diligently.

“But of course one cannot work alone, I have to carry my people along. So the entire staff of Sule Lamido University will be my guide, my help and my assistants,” Muhammad-Yakadai stated.

While presenting the appointment letter to the new VC, the SSG urged him to justify the confidence reposed on him, as his appointment was based on merit.

It could be recalled that the appointment, who took effect from Dec. 5, was approved by of the state on Friday.

Until his appointment ibrahim-Yakasai, was the Chairman, Departmental Quality Assurance Committee, Bayero University Kano (BUK).
