Man Jailed Six Months for Adulterating Wheat

Jigawa State magistrate court presided over by Chief Magistrate Mannir Sarki Abdullahi has sentenced and accordingly convicted one Abdulhamid Zakari to six months in correctional centre for adulterating wheat product, worth N144, 000.

Acccording to the statement by CSC Adamu Shehu, Jigawa Command’s Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, said Zakari, 23, of Gatafa Village, Auyo LGA was arrested by the Agro Rangers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command at Hadejia Agricultural Produce and Grain Market.

He revealed that the convict was arrested with four sacks of adulterated wheat worth N144,000.

” He was consquently arraigned before Jigawa State Mobile Court on suspected case of adulteration of wheat intended for sale,”

The Chief Magistrate on 30th March, 2022 charged the accused with adulteration of food intended for sale, contrary to section 184 of Penal Code code Law and accordingly sentenced him,” he said.

Shehu explained that the court sentenced Abdulhamid to six month in correctional centre with an option of N70,000 as fine, noting that the court, similarly ordered the adulterated wheat recovered from the convict be destroyed.

the court admonished Zakari to be of good behavior and ordered him to sign a bond of being be a good behavior, which according to the law attract three months punishment in correctional facility if violated”.
