Man, 27, arrested with locally fabricated guns, ammunition in Delta

Delta Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old male suspect, Ifakachukwu Igwala from Kwale in Ndokwa-West LGA with one locally fabricated Beretta pistol, two 9mm live ammunition, one locally made single barrel shotgun, and one live cartridge.

DSP Bright Edafe Police Public Relations, Delta State Command disclosed at a press briefing on Monday.

He explained that the command while on concerted efforts to rid the state of illicit firearms led to the arrest of the suspect in Asaba on Wednesday, 04 October 2023.

He further explained that “At about 1630hrs, while operatives of SACU were on a routine patrol along Cable Road, Asaba, they accosted a motorcyclist and his passenger who upon sighting the patrol team hastily jumped down from the moving motorcycle and took to their hills.”

He revealed that the suspects were given a hot chase, where a suspect was arrested.

He added that “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect operates alongside his accomplice named Kelvin surname unknown (at large).

DSP Edafe revealed that the suspect is in custody and the effort to arrest his fleeing accomplice is ongoing.

He pointed out that in another development, on 7th October, 2023, at about 1320hours, operatives of the command Rapid Response Squad acting a credible information stormed Oviorie community Isiokolo Ethiope East LGA Delta state where one Ebireri Morisson ‘m’ aged 40yrs of the same community was arrested at his drug patent shop.

He further said upon searching the premises, one locally fabricated shotgun, and one live cartridge were recovered, adding that the suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

The Delta State Police Commissioner CP Wale Abass, assured that the command has meticulously emplaced essential deployments and security measures for the ember months.

The CP stressed that “On that note, the officers and men are utmostly dedicated to keeping the peace, and implementing the laws while taking concrete steps to ensure accountability, transparency, and maximal professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He summarily maintained that the CP entreated the public to never hesitate to notify the command through the Control Room Numbers (08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287) or the Police Public Relation Office (09155570007; 09155570008).

He assured that all received information will be treated with a high level of confidentiality.
