They organized a prayer session at the Kano NUJ Press Centre to seek forgiveness from Allah on behalf of the late activist.

However, to show their support, the committee established an Appeal Fund named “Friends of the Community Act” with an account number 0652146386 at GTB Bank.

Within a week of its establishment, a sum of N701,000 was deposited.

Last Thursday at 2pm, after the 7-day prayer session, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad, along with other friends, visited the late activist’s residence in Yankaba.

He expressed their condolences and presented the donated amount to the family.

In his speech, Dr. Mustapha emphasized that the donation was made not because the family was poor, but as a gesture to reciprocate the late IG Maryam’s commitment to activism during his lifetime.

He assured the family that they could count on the support of his friends and involvement in activities related to his daughters.

He also revealed that a 5-man committee had been established to revive the late activist’s organization, Gender And Socially Inclusive (GSI), to continue his humanitarian work.
