Kidnapping, Immorality: Shehu Sani Tasks Hisbah on Panacea

A Human Right Activist, Senator Shehu Sani has described Kano State Hisbah Board as a key stakeholder in curtailing the rising spate of kidnapping and other social vices bedeviling Northern Nigeria.

The Activist made the assertion when he paid a courtesy visit to Kano State Hisbah Commander-General, Harun Ibn-Sina.

He maintained that Hisbah in its capacity as state police has a greater role in creating awareness to public on the ills and dangers associated with kidnapping and terrorism.

Sen. Sani stressed the need for the board to collaborate with its counterparts in other Northern states, to squarely address the issue of killings and kidnapping of innocent people in the region.

“The issue we face today is terrorism and insecurity, hisbah as religious police, has a significant role to play in curtailing terrorism,” he said.

He further maitained that the role of hisbah operatives in educating people on the ills of social vices will never be over emphasized.

On his part, the Commander General, Kano State Hisbah Board, Ibn-Sina commended Sani for the visit describing it as timely and encouraging.

He assured that the board would continue to kick against consumption of alcohol, indecent dress and immorality among others as stipulated in the Board’s Law.

“The Board Penal Code Law number four of 2004 section 401 (amended) says the manufacture, distillation, disposal, haulage, consumption and possession of all brand of intoxicating liquors, trade spirits and any other intoxicating substance is prohibited throughout the state.

“If you are living within the state, you must behave acccording to the dictate of Islamic religion and to live in good conduct, manner and mannerism”

The Commander General stressed that the board will continue to collaborate with other states towards curtailing immorality from the grassroot,” he said.

He pointed out that peace prevailed only whenever people abide by the law and order, noting that no society will developed in chaos and disorder.
