Katsina Police Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue Victim …Recover Rustled Animals

The Katsina State Police Command says it has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescued a kidnapped victim, and recovered suspected rustled animals after a fierce gun duel with suspected bandits.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu Command’s Spokesperson disclosed this in a statement issued, Saturday.

He explained that on Aug. 25, at approximately 0230 hrs, a distress call was received at the Kankara divisional police headquarters regarding the movement of suspected bandits from Hayin Gada, Malumfashi LGA, where they kidnapped one Hashim Yusuf, ‘m’, age 65 years old, towards Ruwan Lafiya village, via Kankara Sheme road, Kankara LGA.

He said Responding swiftly to the scene, officers found themselves confronted by a group of armed bandits, heavily armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifle, attempting to flee the area with their victim.

He further said “A daring gun duel ensued as the police worked tirelessly to neutralize the threat and secure the safety of the innocent hostage.”

He added that the officers exhibited exemplary courage and professional skills as they overwhelmingly outmatched the bandits, and rescued the victim unharmed.

According to the PPRO, in the process of scanning the scene, ninety four (94) cows, seventeen (17) sheep, and two (2) motorcycles were recovered.

He revealed that the Operatives are combing the nearby bushes for possible bodies of neutralized bandits as they flee the scene with bullet wounds.

Furthermore, he added that the Commissioner of Police commended the officers’ effort, commitment, and dedication to duty.

He also called on the good people of the state to remain vigilant and report to the nearest police divisional headquarters anyone seen with a bullet wound for further necessary action.
