Kano: Over 9,680 Volunteers to Participate in Voter Registration

At least 9,680 volunteers are to participate at the ongoing online pre voter registration exercise in 484 wards across the 44 local government Councils areas of Kano State.

A minimum of 20 volunteers with android phones are to be engaged in each of the wards depending on the size of it’s polling units.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the meeting between the Kano State mobilization Taskforce on voter registration and Chairmen of the 44 local government councils in the State, held at the conference hall of the Ministry For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Monday.

The meeting resolved that, the volunteers indigents from their respective areas, including females, would be trained on the online pre voter registration process before they commence any action.

They are also expected to train other volunteers at the polling units level for effective coverage of the exercise.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Taskforce, who is also the Commissioner of information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya said the meeting was aimed at creating synergy between the local government Chairmen and the Taskforce for a successful and seamless voter registration exercise especially, that statistics of the earlier online pre voter registration exercise revealed low participation of Kano State despite being the most populous in the country

He said this should serve as a wake-up call appealing to the local government Chairmen to tighten their belts by sensitizing their people on the significance of the exercise.

Comrade Waiya reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of providing necessary support to the logistics-intensive exercise.

The commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Othman Zaura enjoined the local government Chairmen to step up efforts to ensure the success of the exercise .

Waiya further said, they should handle the process as a civic duty irrespective of party affiliation, an exercise which is aimed at strengthening democracy and good governance.

The chairman of Nasarawa local government,also ALGON vice chairperson, Alhaji Yusuf Imam Ogan Boye restated the commitment of the local government Chairmen to achieve desired results in the voter registration exercise.

The Taskforce later met with 484 councillors at the coronation hall, government House, where Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, solicited their support and cooperation in the voter registration exercise.

The chairman of the councillors Forum, Alhaji Bashir Achika who described the voter registration exercise as significant in the electoral process, reaffirmed their commitment to a successful exercise.
