Kano State Governor’s Special Adviser Urges Higher Institutions to Combat Social Vices, Immorality

The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, Professor Auwalu Haliru Arzai, has urged higher institutions of learning to intensify efforts towards achieving zero tolerance for drug abuse, immorality, and other social vices among students in the state.

Professor Auwalu Arzai made the call during a familiarization visit to the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, popularly known as CAS Kano, as part of his efforts to tour the 12 higher institutions owned by the Kano government.

“I am impressed with the superlative performance of the College of Education and Preliminary Studies Kano, and its conversion to the College of Education is a laudable achievement as it will now attract Tetfund and other funding for infrastructural development,” he said.

Professor Arzai revealed that the State allocated 2.1 billion Naira in the 2024 budget for the College to acquire additional hectares of land and other infrastructure at the college’s New Campus in Kunchi Local Government and the City campus in Kano.

Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Sanusi Ahmad Yakubu, highlighted the college’s excellence and its status as the first and best higher institution in Kano, maintaining zero tolerance for drug abuse and examination malpractice for over five decades since its inception in 1972.

Dr. Sanusi added that the college offers an NCE program in various courses, in addition to the IJMB and remedial studies, with over 30 PhD holders in the College.

The Provost commended the efforts of the incumbent administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for improving educational indices and solicited the government to expedite the completion of the ongoing projects in the college and address other demands.

Aminu Bello Sani Information Officer, Office of Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, in a statement however said during the visit, the Special Adviser interacted separately with management, leaders of the staff unions, and students.
