Kano Rotary Club Donates Sewing Machines to Support Inmate Rehabilitation

As part of its humanitarian service and commitment to community development, the Rotary Club of Kano has donated 12 brand-new modern sewing machines, worth over Three Million Naira, to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command.

The donation is aimed at supporting the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates through vocational skills acquisition.

Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service Kano State Command Chief Superintendent of Corrections Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa, made this known in a statement issued, Thursday.

The machines were officially handed over to the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, during a ceremony held at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kano.

Receiving the items, the Controller expressed profound gratitude to the Rotary Club for the thoughtful gesture.

He assured the donors that the machines would be judiciously utilized to advance reformatory programmes, adding that vocational empowerment is a critical tool in preparing inmates for life after incarceration.

The Controller also conveyed the appreciation of the Controller General of Corrections (CGC) Sylvester Nwakuche, to the Rotary Club, and urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate the example.

He emphasized the importance of sustained support for the Service in its mission to achieve effective offender management and contribute to public.

The officer in charge of the Custodial Centre DCC Ibrahim Isah Rambo presented a souvenir on behalf of the Inmates to the Kano Rotary club..

Speaking earlier, the President of the Rotary Club of Kano, Rotarian Tajudeen Olatunbosun, noted that the donation was part of the club’s commitment to empowering disadvantaged groups.

He encouraged inmates to take the opportunity seriously and remain positively engaged throughout their stay in custody.

The donation is expected to strengthen the tailoring workshop of the custodial centre, equipping inmates with practical skills that can help reduce recidivism and aid reintegration into society.

The Ceremony was attended by past District Governor of Rotary Sagab Sani Ahmed 9127 amongst other Rotary leaders.
