Kano NSCDC Commandant Receives NUJ Delegation, Commends Journalists’ Role in Nation Building

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, on Wednesday, played host to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano Council in what was described as a historic and mutually beneficial engagement.

While receiving the delegation at the command headquarters, the State Commandant, Shafi’u Abdulmumin, expressed delight over the visit, describing it as the first of its kind by such an “August group of people of the pen.”

He acknowledged the critical role journalists play in shaping the nation, noting that the work of the NUJ is essential to national development and peace building. “Your contribution to the growth and stability of this country cannot be overemphasized,” he said.

In his remarks, the Acting Chairman of NUJ, Kano State Council, Comrade Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the union and the NSCDC.

He noted that the NUJ recently marked its 70th anniversary, highlighting that the union was established even before Nigeria gained independence in 1960.

He described the NSCDC as a vital partner in the pursuit of a safer society, commending the Corps for its role in boosting the security architecture of the state.

Comrade Mustapha also encouraged the NSCDC command to consider holding some of its official activities at the NUJ Council Conference Hall as a way of deepening collaboration and fostering stronger ties between the two institutions.

According to statement by Abubakar Shehu Kwaru NUJ Kano Council Secretary, the visit ended with an exchange of goodwill and a renewed commitment to mutual support in the discharge of their respective duties.
