Kano: NDLEA Secures 7 Convictions, Including 10-Year Sentence for Notorious Cannabis Trafficker

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has achieved a significant milestone with the conviction and sentencing of Muhammad Bako Sambo, a notorious cannabis trafficker.

Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano State Command made this known in a statement

He said the sentencing, which took place at the Federal High Court in Kano, resulted in a 10-year prison term for the offender.

He further said the Command under the leadership of Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad, the NDLEA has been successfully combating illicit drug activities within the state.

“The prosecution of Sambo serves as a strong message to all individuals involved in the illegal trade and transportation of cannabis and other prohibited substances.”

“Sambo’s operations involved the transportation of large quantities of Cannabis Sativa from southern states to the northern region.”

Mr. Maigatari pointed out that the convict was apprehended by NDLEA officers in November 2020 after initially evading arrest.

He added that a subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of 201 kilograms of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

He noted that further investigations confirmed the substance and established Sambo’s guilt under the NDLEA Act.

Commander Ahmad commended the dedication of his prosecutors and reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking.

He emphasized that the agency will continue working tirelessly to ensure that offenders face the full consequences of their actions.

According to him, the Agency under the leadership of Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA has made significant strides in intelligence gathering, strategic prosecution, and reducing drug-related crimes.

He stressed that Marwa’s commitment and expertise have revitalized the agency, making it a formidable force in Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

“The NDLEA encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities and assures them of confidentiality and protection.

“Together, the agency aims to create a drug-free and safer society.” He stated.
