Kano Househelp Killing: Principal Defendant Faces Obstacle After Co-Defendant’s Conviction

A 24-year-old Woman, Hafsat Suraj popularly known as chuchu, resident in Kano, standing trial over alleged killing of her househelp  has encountered a legal obstacles following the conviction of her co-defendant Mallam Nasidi Adamu for concealing crucial information related to the incident.

Mallam Nasidi was sentenced to six months in Correctional Centre beginning with the first day he was arraigned before Magistrate Court.

Additionally, the presiding judge, Justice Farouk Lawan has ordered the convict to pay the fine of N50, 000.

He also directed the convict to perform community service at Kano Correctional Service by providing Islamic religious instruction to inmates for a duration of six months.

The sentenced was pursuant to the plea bargain reached between the prosecution counsel and the convict.

Mallam Nasidi admitted washing the corpse of the deceased after Hafsat allegedly stabbed him severally in his body, an offence contrary to penal code.

On the other hand, the principal defendant, Hafsat Suraj, remained silent as in previous court sittings, not uttering a word when the charges were read to her.

Similarly a husband to the principal defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Hafsat and her husband were being accused of conspiring to killed their hhousehelp, Nafiu Hafiz on 21st Dec. 2023 in kano.

The court adjourned its sitting until 20th June, 2024 for further sitting
