Human Trafficking: NAPTIP Reiterates Commitments Toward Diligent Prosecution

Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP), Dr Fatima Waziri – Azi, has reiterated the commitment of the Agency towards diligent investigation and prosecution of high profile cases as well as tackling emerging trafficking tricks and trends in to reduce the menace of human trafficking in the Country to the barest minimum.

Dr. Fatima Waziri – Azi, stated this while addressing Ambassadors, members of the Diplomatic Community, Development Partners and other stakeholders on Wednesday at the NAPTIP Embassy Liaison Meeting held in Abuja.

The Embassy Liaison meeting is a forum put together by the Agency to foster synergy, enhance diplomatic collaboration and improve international cooperation in the fight Against Trafficking in Persons.

Justice Watch News gathered that the meeting was organized under the Project – Strengthening Nigeria’s Criminal Justice Response to Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (PROMIS) funded by the Kingdom of Netherlands and implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC).

She solicited the cooperation of the various Embassies in a bid to reduce human trafficking in the Country.

In her address shortly before declaring the Meeting open, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiq Umar Farouk represented by the Deputy Director, Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Charles Anaelo, commended the Director General for the laudable feat recorded in the countering human trafficking since her assumption of office and promised that the Ministry will continue to support the Agency in a bid to realise its mandates.

There was also a goodwill messages from Mr. Aondoaver Kuttuh, an Advisor to UNODC and representative of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The forum provided opportunity for participants to appraise global efforts in the fight against human trafficking with emphasis on status of international cases, learn best practices and proffer solution to emerging trends in the phenomenon of trafficking in persons.
