Human Trafficking: NAPTIP, Lawmaker Sensitize 150 youths in Katsina

No fewer than 150 youths selected from Mani/Bindawa Federal Constituencies in Katsina State, were sensitized on the ills, dangers of human trafficking and child labour  by National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), in collaboration with Federal House of Assembly Member, Alhaji Aminu Ashir Mani representing Mani/Bindawa Constituents.

Addressing the participants, Alhaji Musa Aliyu, Commander of NAPTIP in Katsina said the aim of the sensitization campaigns was to enlighten the youths, carefully selected from the two LGAs on  dangers associated with human trafficking.

He explained that NAPTIP is Federal Government of Nigeria’s Agency, established to curtail the the menace of human trafficking, child labour, and other related offences,”

He lamented that traffickers deceived victims and their parents with juicy employment outside Nigeria through Nigeria’s legal or porous borders to Niger Republic, Algeria and European countries.

“Victims of human trafficking are used in European Countries for organ harvesting, prostitution, force labour, ponography vedio against their wishes,”

The Commander further maintained that the Agency is saddled with the responsibility of Investigation, Monitoring, Prosecution, Counselling, Rehabilitation and Public Enlightenment of all cases related to human traffic and child labour.

Aliyu stressed that the Agency under his watch is achieving huge success, since after the establishment of the command in Katsina.

He urged youths, parents and other stakeholders to report any suspected case of human trafficking, child abuse or labour with a view to fighting the scourge.

He revealed that fighting human trafficking require serious collaboration from the stakeholders like; community leaders, policy makers, religious and traditional leaders, NGO, CSO and sister security agencies.

The Commander, urged other politicians, philanthropists to emulate the kind gesture of Aminu Ashiru Mani to successfully reduce the scourge of human trafficking in the two LGAs.

In his remark, Alhaji Ashiru Aminu, Member representing Mani/Bindawa Federal Constituents, represented by his aide, Alhaji Sanusi Babaye said the program is timely considering the rising spate of human trafficking in society.

The lawmaker also said he secured employments to over 200 youths across the two LGAs, calling on them to shun all act of human trafficking, noting that  there is nothing good in the menace.

He urged the participants to step down what they learnt during the sensitization campaign with a view to halting the menace in Katsina State.

The lawmaker said his door is always open for NAPTIP to successfully enforce its mandate in Katsina State.

Also speaking, the District Head of Mani, Durbin Katsina, Alhaji Umar Babani Isah Mani, commended the lawmaker as well as NAPTIP for coming up with the program

He called on the participants to disseminate the knowledge they acquired to their fellow colleagues, brothers and sisters to achieve a desired goals.

Some of the participants who spoke with Justice Watch News expressed delight seeing the Agency embarked on community based sensitization campaign against human trafficking.

They stated their willingness to report any human trafficking or child labour to the Agency.

The participants similarly commended the Lawmaker for his foresight towards ensuring Mani and Bindawa LGAs remained blessed.
