Jigawa Police Command says it has apprehended one Muhammad Mustapha, a horse rider, who allegedly hit a 70-year- old cyclist, Umar Hassan to death in Ringim LGA Jigawa.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Jigawa Command’s Public Relations Officer made this known in a statement, issued on Sunday.

He said the suspect, 25, a resident of Unguwar Maina in Ringim municipality was riding a horse without authorisation and alleged to have lost control which as a result 70-year-old victim, a resident of Galadanchi Quarters, at Tsigi Quarters in Ringim LGA.
He explained that as a result, the cyclist sustained various degrees of injuries and fractures on his left leg and shoulder.
“A team of policemen rushed to the scene and conveyed the victim to Ringim General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by Medical Doctor while receiving treatment.
“The corpse was handed over to the relatives for burial.” He stated.

DSP Shiisu further explained that the suspect was arrested and properly detained in Police custody.
He revealed that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of a discreet investigation at SCID Dutse.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot called on parents to warn their children to desist from illegal horse riding across the state, as the command will not hesitate to clamp down on any violators.
He further consoled the immediate family and relatives and prayed for the departed soul to have eternal peace.
