Governor Yusuf Visits Kano Custodial Centres, Reiterates Commitment to Inmates’ Welfare

The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his compassionate and proactive visit to two major custodial facilities in the state—Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Janguza, as well as Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano State.

The visit, which took place following recent media reports published by Daily Trust alleging inadequate feeding and incidences of sodomy within the facilities, underscores Governor’s commitment to transparency, justice, and the humane treatment of all citizens, including those in lawful custody.

According to a statement by Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa Chief Superintendent of Corrections Public Relations Officer Kano State Command Nigerian Correctional Service said during the visit, the donated two cows, assorted foodstuffs, toiletries, as well as essential beds and bedding materials to improve the welfare of the inmates.

“The Kano State Command welcomes these generous donations and assures the public that they will be distributed equitably and utilized judiciously to enhance the daily living conditions within the centres.

“While the Command acknowledges concerns raised in the media, we wish to state categorically that the Nigerian Correctional Service maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of abuse or human rights violations within its facilities.”

He pointed out that necessary measures are taken to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of inmates in accordance with national and international standards.

“The Command also appreciates the continued support of the Kano State Government and reassures the public of its commitment to upholding correctional best practices, promoting rehabilitation, and safeguarding the rights of all individuals under our custody.
