Governor Yusuf Mourns late Professor Hafizu Miko Yakasai

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deepest commiseration over the passing away of Professor Hafizu Miko Yakasai, a renowned linguist of International repute who passes on yesterday after an illness.

This was contained in a condolence message issued by the governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa in Kano Friday.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described late Professor Hafizu Yakasai as an academic who was widely celebrated for his contributions to Hausa language studies, translation and lexicography.

He also acknowledged the crucial roles played by the deceased in developing English-Hausa/ Hausa-English dictionary; served as pioneer Vice President and later President of Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI) and championed it’s national congresses and facilitated the establishment of its Kano State Council in 2021.

On behalf of the Governmemt and good people of Kano, the governor extended sincere condolences to the deceased family and Bayero University Community for the huge loss.

He also beseech Almighty Allah the Most Exalted to grant his soul eternal rest and be among the dwellers of Jannatul Firdausi.

At the time of his death, Professor Hafizu Miko Yakasai was a Professor of Linguistics and Foreign Languages and Provost, College of Humanities, Bayero University, Kano.
