Governor Bala Pardons 96 INMATES In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on Friday granted state pardon to ninety six (96) inmates across the various custodial centres in the state and empowered them with N100,000 each to start a business for self-reliance.

ASC Ahmad U. Tata Corrections Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command in a statement said speaking during the ceremony, the governor said he has pardoned 96 inmates serving different jail terms in various correctional centres based on the powers vested in him to grant state pardon under section 212 (1) and (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the prerogative of mercy.

He explained that the pardon was granted to the inmates based on the recommendation of the committee on the prerogative of mercy which reviewed their records based on the determination to become good citizens and to be useful to themselves and the society.

The governor who paid all the lingering fines of the inmates out of state government’s pocket, also monetarily empowered them to actualize the various skills they acquired during their stay at correctional centres and implored them to henceforth be law abiding citizens.

In his remarks, the Controller of Corrections Bauchi State Command CCS Ali Abubakar Bajoga expressed his sincere appreciation to the Governor for his numerous positive interventions to the service in the state.

He added that under his leadership, quite a large number of inmates were released over the years and it helped in decongesting the custodial centres in the state and enhanced the smooth operation of the service.

One of the pardoned inmates, Musa Muhammed thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for the gesture on behalf of the others and assured him they will become law abiding citizens in the society as well as use the amount given to them wisely.
