GBV: We’ve 100 cases in August – CITAD

Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) says it has recorded 100 reported cases of Gender-Based Violance in August, against 140 cases it recorded in the Month of July, 2022.

She said during the period under review, CITAD recorded visible decline in reported cases.

“In comparison with the data obtained in previous months, there is a visible decline in reported cases. 100 cases were reported as compared to the 140 cases reported in the previous month.”

“As part of our social responsibility, we would continue to advocate and improve awareness
against GBV, but we still urge the citizens to take responsibility in their environment to see that these issues are curbed.”

She commended the efforts of all stakeholders on their relentless effort to create awareness against GBV, while also commending the state government on there efforts so far.

She urged the public to continue to report cases of GBV to successfully sanitize the society, noting that CITAD will continue to monitor the situation of the menace in society in line with its cardinal principles.

“We will like to appeal to parents, relatives and
everyone to always report cases to the various agencies handling GBV cases. Keeping silent will not protect the victims who suffer.”

She further called on the Government, State House of Assembly and all key relevant stakeholders to ensure domestication of Child’s Protection Bill (VAPP) Act or reviewing of the existing Penal Code.

The Gender Officer of CITAD similarly called on the Kano State Government to establish a Gender Abuse Monitoring Unit in Higher Education Institutions, the Ministry of
Education, its parastatal responsible for education at different levels and in the schools.

“To establish special courts for trying perpetrators of Gender-Based violence.

Aminu enjoined the Public to be aware that violence online is not acceptable.

He explained that CITAD is an organization committed to using information technology to promote sustainable development, good governance and peaceful coexistence.

She added the NGO has been regularly monitoring, Gender-Based Violence through our CITAD,s Mobile GBV App available on both Play Store and IOs.
