Five Persons Die, Four Rescued as Boat Capsizes in Jigawa

Jigawa Police Command says five persons have died and four others rescued when a locally made canoe conveying nine (9) passengers capsized at Martaba Village Gwaram LGA of the state.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam made this known in a statement issued on Monday.

He said the ugly incident occurred on Friday, 2nd September, 2022, at about 1900hrs at Martaba village Gwaram LGA of Jigawa State.

He pointed out that the incident occurred when passengers were returning home after attending Juma’ah prayer.

DSP Adam further said on receipt of the report, a team of Policemen were rushed to the scene.

According to him, Four (4) of the passengers; one Barkeji ‘m’ age 60yrs, and three (3) others all of Martaba village were rescued alive.

“With the aid of local divers, Five (5) Corpses were recovered. They are; Lukateru ‘m’ age 60yrs, Musa ‘m’ age 50yrs, Sale ‘m’ age 50yrs, Alh Shuaibu ‘m’ age 60yrs, and Dogo ‘m’ age 50yrs all of Darazau Herdsmen settlement camp in Bauchi State.”

He stated that Corpses were released to their relatives for burial.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Aliyu Sale Tafida condoled with the family and relatives.

He also prayed for the departed souls to have eternal peace.
