EFCC shouldn’t be Obstructed from performing its Lawful Duty – AGF

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN has raised concerns regarding the obstruction faced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in performing its lawful duties.

In a statement  issued on Thursday, the Minister emphasized that the EFCC has the legal authority to invite individuals for interactions during investigations and that everyone should cooperate when called upon.

He  expressed distress over public officials who attempt to impede the EFCC’s efforts, citing the importance of upholding the rule of law and avoiding actions that undermine law enforcement processes.

He highlighted the need for institutions like the EFCC to function effectively while also ensuring the protection of fundamental rights.

Urging Nigerians to respect invitations from law enforcement agencies, the Minister emphasized the importance of following due process and upholding civility.

He emphasized that the judicial system in Nigeria is robust enough to provide protection to all citizens who abide by the law.

The Minister’s statement sends a clear message that while he advocates for the protection of individual rights, he also supports the effective functioning of State institutions like the EFCC.

He called for cooperation from individuals invited by law enforcement agencies and warned against resorting to self-help or evasion tactics, which could tarnish the country’s reputation.
