ECOWAS: Parliament Adopts 4-year Strategic Plan Of Operations

The ongoing 6th Legislature Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Kano has adopted a four-year strategic plan as a blueprint for the Parliament’s successful operation.

In his address during the plenary, the Deputy Speaker of the Ecowas Parliament, Senator Barau Jibrin said the plan will serve a guide to the Parliament, for year 2024 -2028.

He stressed that the Strategic Plan has covered a lot of issues ranging from Economic Integration, Political, Social, Security, Trade, Terrorism, Climate Change among other issues.

He further stated that the Parliament is determined to bring back Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Mali, who withdrew from ECOWAS following military interventions in their democratic settings.

“We can engage them further and convince to comeback to democratic nations rather than military governance.

“Presently, Morocco, Algeria, Sao Tome and Principe indicated their interest to join the 6th ECOWAS Parliament. We are working hard toward achieving these feats”

During the plenary, members of Parliament stressed the need for the Parliament to consider the issue of Women and People Living with Disabilities with utmost importance.

The members further deliberated on the menance of drug abuse calling for concerted efforts with a view to address the problem of drug abuse and trafficking among the member states.

It could be recalled that the ECOWAS Parliament has commenced their 2nd Extraordinary Session in Kano which according to the Acting Speaker of the Parliament, Senator Barau Jibrin was a crucial water shed in the history of the ancient city.
