Customs Arraigns 2 Suspects for Felony Charges

The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone A has brought two suspects, Walu Oladeji and Lateef Odugbemi, before the Federal High Court in Ibadan.

The duo are facing a four-count charge including obstruction of duty, shooting, and assault on an officer on duty, which amount to felony under section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Counsel to the Federal Operations Unit zone ‘A’, of the Service, Barrister Smart Akande explained that the incidents in question occurred on 22nd May 2023 in Tapa, Ibarapa North Local Government, where the suspects, along with others who are still at large, allegedly committed the offenses.

He further alleged that the attacks reportedly resulted in severe injuries to Nigeria Customs officers who were carrying out their legitimate duties.

Although both suspects pleaded not guilty, they will however, remain in a nearby correctional center until their bail application is processed.

The case has been adjourned to 24th and 25th January 2024.
