COAS Annual Conference Set to Open in Abuja

Nigerian Army has said that all is now set for the 2021 edition of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference scheduled for 6th to 11th December, 2021.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu while briefing journalist said the event will be the maiden conference of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya since assumption of command.

The COAS Annual Conference is a forum for appraising Nigerian Army’s performance within a period of one year.

”This year’s conference will afford the COAS and participants an opportunity to evaluate training, operational activities as well as logistics and administrative matters for the year 2021.

”It is also aimed at making projections for subsequent years, with a view to reposition the NA for optimal performance in the discharge of its constitutional roles.

”The NA being a symbol of national unity and pride of the nation has come a long way in carrying out its constitutional roles and fulfilling its core mandate to the citizenry. Hence, the Nigerian Army would use the conference to reflect on its performances in the year under review towards more effective operational and administrative performance in the coming year.” He added.

General Nwachukwu who further highlighted some of the achievements of the COAS to include, motivation of troops through improved welfare packages as well as training and acquisition of platforms said, such have continued push troops to sustain the onslaught against Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The event with the theme: Building Nigerian Army capacity in combating emerging security threats in a joint operations environment.” is slated to have President Muhammadu Buhari as the Special Guest of Honour, while The Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Salihi Bashir Magashi (Rtd) and other dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.
