Businessman docked for allegedly stealing phone, vital documents

A businessman, Hajis Abubakar, was, on Monday, arraigned before an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a bag containing vital documents, iPhone 6 and eight flash drives.

The police charged Abubakar, who lives at Kuje, Abuja, with criminal trespass, mischief and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that in July, the defendant broke the windscreen of the complainant’s car parked at Greenview Gardens, Gudu, FCT and stole a bag containing eight flash drives, iPhone 6 and some vital documents, worth N279, 000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

According to Osho, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 348, 327 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two ‘reasonable’ sureties.

Mohammed ordered that the sureties must live within the courts’ jurisdiction, with their addresses verified by the court registrar, while they must also provide their national identification cards to be kept in the court.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Nov. 11 for further hearing.
