Allegation of N5 Million Gratification Against Dambazau: Court Orders CP to Investigate

Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu has declared that the act of Kano State Consumer Protection Council and its Managing Director, General Idris Bello Dambazau (Rtd) in taking away  323 Jerry cans of palm oil and 13 drums of vegetable oil permanently belonging to Sani Ismail (Applicant) is against the provision of Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 ( as amended) and the extant laws establishing the Council.

Justice Watch News earlier reports that the applicant, Alhaji Sani Sama’ila had through his counsel Barrister Usman Umar Fari in a suit number K/M1084/2021 approached the court seeking an interim order against the action of Consumer Protection Council and its Managing Director argued that the action of the council  violated his fundamental rights as citizen of Nigeria, the applicant prayed the court to so hold.

Judgment Order

In his judgement, Justice Nasiru Saminu upheld that the goods taken away from the applicant by Respondents to wit 323 Jerry cans of palm oil and 13 drum and 4 Jerry cans of vegetable shall not be dispose or destroyed and shall be kept in safe custody of the Council pending the outcome of the laboratory analysis on the products by National Agency for Food and Drugs Adminstration and Control (NAFDAC).

Against the allegation of demanding the sum of N5 million by General Dambazau from the Applicant before releasing his goods, Justice Saminu similarly directed Kano State Commissioner of Police to cause an investigation into the allegation.
