Akwa Ibom Police Apprehend Suspected Cultist, Recover Firearms

Akwa Ibom Police Command has said that on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at approximately 6:30 PM, its operatives acting on credible information, have successfully apprehended a suspected dangerous cult gang.

The suspects have been terrorizing Ibesikpo Asutan and its neighboring communities.

DSP Timfon John Police Public Relations Officer Akwa Ibom State Police Command, made this known in a statement.

She said the arrests took place at the cultists’ hideout in Ikot Etuk Village, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. According to her, during the operation, Operatives recovered:
• one locally made pistol
• ⁠one fabricated single-barrel gun
• ⁠assorted charms.

“The arrested gang members have been identified as:
• Utibe Edem Asuquo, male, 31 years old
• Godwin Edet Edem, male, 32 years old
• Usen Edem Eyo, male, 29 years old
• Aniebiet Edet Edem, male, 28 years old
• Anthony Dominic Edem, male, 32 years old”

“The suspects have voluntarily provided useful information to the police regarding their criminal activities.”

She noted, “This includes their involvement in a recent attack on Fulani herdsmen, which resulted in the killing of two cows.”

The PPRO added that the stolen cows w7:ere reportedly shared among various cult groups within Ibesikpo Asutan.

She pointed out that efforts are currently underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover their operational weapons.

The command assured that further developments will be communicated to the public as they unfold.
