Adamawa Police Arrest 39-Year-Old Impersonating Ghost for Fraud

The Adamawa state Police Command have apprehended a 39-year-old individual, accused of conning people by impersonating a ghost.

During a press conference on Sunday, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest.

He stated that the accused, Sani Mamman, reportedly a well-known con artist, utilized various guises to deceive individuals out of their money, altering his voice to enhance the illusion.

SP Nguroje further explained that on April 16th, 2024 a complaint was lodged by Jamilu Zira at the Girei Police Divisional Headquarters.

He noted that Zira claimed he was contacted by someone asserting to be a ghost who then threatened and defrauded him of N1.4 million.

“Following the complaint, CP Dankombo Morris of the Adamawa Command mandated the apprehension of the suspect for a thorough investigation.

“The complainant recounted that the self-proclaimed ghost, along with others, led him to Song LGA, where they intimidated him and coerced him into handing over money under the pretense of increasing his wealth.” SP Nguroje further said

When questioned by the press, the suspect confirmed his identity as Sani Mamman, a 39-year-old man.

He explained that he resides in the FUTY Area behind Zuma water and previously sold earrings and shoes before engaging in fraudulent activities.

He confessed to deceiving the complainant by masquerading as a ghost and acknowledged defrauding approximately 13 other individuals in the past.

He warned the public to remain vigilant of fraudsters’ schemes and assured that the police would persist in educating the public about such deceptive practices.

SP Nguroje also mentioned that CP Dankombo Morris has directed for discreet investigations and prosecute the suspect before the court to bring him to justice.
