24-year-old man arrested for stealing NSCDC operational motorcycle in Jigawa

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the theft of an operational motorcycle belonging to Jigawa command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSC Adamu Shehu, told newsmen in Dutse Wednesday that the suspect, a resident of Damutawa village in Jahun LGA, was arrested after he allegedly trespassed and stole the motorcycle from the residence of one of the NSCDC’s personnel in Gurduba village, Kiyawa LGA.

“Operatives of the NSCDC in Jigawa have arrested a 24-year-old man of Damutawa village, Jahun LGA on a suspected case of motorcycle theft, house burglary, and trespass, contrary to sections 286, 346, 342 and punishable under sections 287, 349, 348 respectively of the penal code law CAP P3 Vol. III laws of the state.

“The suspect was arrested in Gujungu town, Taura of LGA on Jan. 20 at about 3 p.m around following a complaint lodged at the state command by one Isa Idi of Gurduba village, Kiyawa LGA, a personnel of the NSCDC that his house was burgled by unknown persons on Jan. 20 at about 2 a.m. and stole a motorcycle (Sinoki Supra) assigned to him by the office,” Adamu said.

He explained that upon receipt of the information, intelligence and investigation officers of the command swung into action and apprehended the suspect.

The PRO added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the offence and took the motorcycle to Gujungu (Weekly) market to sell it.

According to him, the suspect also confessed that about two weeks ago, he has committed similar offence in the same area where he broke into the residence of one Babannan Umaru and stole a Boxer motorcycle which he sold in Maigatari LGA at the cost of N70,000.

“The suspect also mentioned the names of two of his accomplices, now at large,” the PRO added.

Shehu further stated that one of the accomplices, aged 35 and resident of Aujara Aujara town of Jahun LGA at, was arrested on Tuesday at about 4 p.m. in connection with the theft of the boxer motorcycle.

He added that the suspect has also confessed to have assisted the principal suspect to dispose of the stolen boxer motorcycle in Maigatari LGA.

“The 35-year-old suspected stated that he was given the sum of N10, 000 from the N70,000 collected. And When asked whether he knew that the motorcycle was stolen before it was sold, he responded in the affirmative,” he said.

According to him, the operatives have also apprehended a 47-year-man in connection with the theft of the boxer motorcycle.

Shehu said the suspect, a resident of Damutawa village of Jahun LGA, who was arrested on Wednesday at Tsirma village of Kiyawa LGA, also confessed to have assisted the principal suspect in selling the stolen motorcycle.

“The suspect said he was also given N10,000 as his share of the booty and criminal conspiracy, which is contrary to section 96 and punishable under section 97 is now added to the already established charges,” Shehu said.

The PRO said the suspects would be charged to court after discreet investigation.
