The Nigerian Correctional Service, Katsina state command, has received books and instructional materials which were donated by the National Library of Nigeria Katsina branch to promote education among the inmates while in incarceration.
This was issued in a statement by Katsina State Command Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Wada Ibrahim on Tuesday.
He explained that the items donated include: 51 titles, 61 volumes, 1 pack of biro, 2 packs of Pencil, 2 packs of exercise books, 10 pieces of sharpeners, and 2 packs of carbon paper A4 size.
While donating the items, according to Wada, Amina Maje Sayyadi, the Head of Branch of the National Library of Nigeria, Katsina, said the gesture was part of the annual readership promotion campaign to improve literacy among inmates, which inevitably will aid their rehabilitation and reformatory processes.
Recieving the donation on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Halliru Nababa, the Controller of Corrections, Katsina State Command Muhammmad Abdulmumin Haruna applauded the efforts and timely intervention of the National Library, Katsina branch and assured that the donated items would be used judiciously.
