Kano State High Court Number 1 Presided over by State Chief Judge, Justice Nura Sagir Umar, has sentenced one Ibrahim Garba, 29, of Sara Town in Gwaram LGA Jigawa State to 6 years in correctional centre without option of fine for possession of illegal Firearms and threat to life, contrary to section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms Act LFN 2004 and section.
The Defendant pleaded not guilty when he was first arraigned sometimes in 2019.
The Prosecution Counsel Barrister Wada Ahmad Wada ( Principal State Counsel from Kano State Ministry for Justice) called four witnesses who testified against the Defendant.
To proved his case Barrister Wada similarly, tendered 7 exhibits, including the 2 bullets the Defendant used in sending the threat letter and demanded N2m from complainant ( name withheld) which he threaten to use the bullets in AK47 rifle and kill him if he failed to abide by the instructions contained in the letter.
After the prosecution closed its case, the Defendant entered his defense and testified as a lone witness.
In his judgement The Chief Judge upheld that ” I carefully perused on all the evidences and testimonies adduced by both counsel in the trial of this case and I found that the Prosecution Counsel has proved his case beyond any doubt”
Consquently, Justice Umar sentenced and accordingly convicted Ibrahim Garba to 6 years in correctional centre without option fine.
The trial Judge also ordered that the jail terms be commence from the date of his arrest in 2019
