Dollar Vedio: Court Awards N800,000 to Jafar Jafar, Penlight Media Against Ganduje


Kano State High Court has on Tuesday ordered Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to pay the sum of N800,000 to the publisher of Daily Nigerian, Ja’afar Ja’afar as cost for expenses incurred in the civil suit filed by Governor Ganduje.

Court Fixes September 10 for Judgment on Orji Kalu’s Retrial

The Presiding Judge, Justice Suleiman Namallam granted the sum of N400,000 each to Ja’afar Ja’afar and his company, Penlight Media Limited (Daily Nigerian).

Ganduje had filed an application through his counsel, Offiong Offiong dated 28th June, 2021 seeking the court to discontinue the case it earlier filed for defamation of character and seeking the sum of N3bn as damages.

The counsel to the first Defendant U U. Eteng and that of second defendant Muhammad Dan azumi did not objected to the application but demanded the sum of N400 million as part of terms to discontinue the suit.

In his submission, Barrister Dan azumi argued that cost follows event naturally.

In his ruling, Justice Namallam, however granted the sum of N800,000 in place of the N400 million demanded by counsel of the of the defendants.

The defendant counsel also demanded for an apology to be published in national dailies and a pre-action letter sent to the applicant.

Justice Namallam however, remain silence on the prayer by defendants to make a public apology in national dailies.

Recall that ganduje approached the court challenging Jafar Jafar who allegedly published a story on the alleged video of Governor ganduje stuffing a dollar in his pocket.
