Mahdi Shehu Vs Masari: Court Adjourns Sitting to 26/27 For Hearing

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano presided over by Justice A Liman on Monday adjourned its sitting to 26th and 27th of July 2021 for the commencement of hearing in case of alleged defamation of character and other related offences against a whistle blower, Mahdi shehu who alleged to have defamed the character of Katsina state Governor, Aminu Bello Masari and his Cabinet.

Earlier in the last adjourn day, Muhammad Mahdi Shehu was arraigned before Justice Lewis Allagoa who has been transferred to other jurisdiction.

When the matter resume today, the case started afresh ( Denovo) before Justice Liman.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP re-arraigned Mahdi Shehu before the court on a six court charges bordering on cyber stalking against the Katsina State government.

Earlier, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa granted the whistle blower bail to N10 million and a reliable surety with a landed property in Kano Municipal and verifed residential address in Kano.

According to the charge sheet by prosecution is alledging that Mahdi Shehu between May to July 2020 , while acting in concert and with the intent to defame, insult, cause enmity, hatred, Ill will and damaged the reputation and integrity of Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello And his Cabinet.

“Granted an interview at Channels Television, Freedom Radio and falsely accusing Governor Aminu Bello Masari and his Executives Commissioners squandering over N62 billion security fund, N24 billion security volts.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all 6 head count charge

The prosecution counsel Assistance Commissioner of Police Samuel Lough told the court that he intends to call six witnesses to prove the allegations against Mahdi Shehu.

Assistant Commissioner Lough also alleged that the defendant between the 18th March, 2021 published 32 episodes of defamation of character against katsina state governor and his cabinet.
