Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission is set to prosecute the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Idris Rimi, and some directors in the ministry for alleged fraud.

A source in the commission revealed that the ministry’s officials were being prosecuted for inability to furnish the commission with detail of spendings on diesel in the last five years, which ran into millions of naira.

The commissioner and directors are equally facing litigation for alleged contract racketeering relating to cancer treatment centre in the state, The Guardian gathered.

Earlier, the commission had launched investigation into the alleged fraud with the request to the ministry to provide relevant documents.

In a letter with reference number PCACC/CM/OFF/Vol./071 dated June 10, 2021, and signed by chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gando, the anti-graft body requested the ministry to provide information relating to construction of the cancer centre and supply of diesel.

“In the exercise of its powers under Sections 9 and 15 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008, the investigation requires you to provide all documents relating to cancer centre, all documents pertaining to procurement of diesel, and any other information that will aid the commission’s investigation,” the letter read in part.

A source at the ministry that pleaded anonymity confirmed the development, but declined further comment on the matter.

The Guardian learnt that supply of diesel in the state in the years under review was among exclusive privileges for the first family in the state.

Although, one of the members of the first family, who was reportedly in charge of the skewed procurement process, had since been suspended for alleged abuse of office.

Unofficial sources disclosed that the commission might be attempting to step on powerful toes in government through probe of the over N5 billon cancer treatment centre contract, a project allegedly anchored by the first family by proxy.

Meanwhile, Muhuyi is facing the hottest pressure of his life to resign or be forced out of the commission.

In what many considered as orchestrated plot by the state government, Muhuyi had prosecuted former Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, and prosecuted political associates of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
