Man 21, Arrested in Katsina for ATM fraud

The Katsina Command of Nigeria Police said it has apprehended one Aliyu Abdullahi, 21, of Kasuwar Mata Quarters who allegedly specialised in defrauding members of the public who went to ATM points to withdraw cash.

Parading the suspect among many others in connection with different crime, the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah said in the course of investigation, suspect confessed to the commission of the crime

” His modus operandi is to hanged out between UBA and First Bank ATM points along IBB way, Katsina

” What he does was to patiently wait for an operator whose ATM was rejected because of inexperience with operations of the machine. He then came in an pretended to render assistance and in the process he swapped the victim’s ATM card with a fake one. He already had the victim’s ATM card and PIN number he will then quickly ran to another ATM point and withdraw all the money in the account”.

The PPPO maintained that the suspect confessed to have withdrew over N6 million from different account of 6 of his victims.

SP Gambo Isah further said the command conducted raids in criminal hideouts in Katsina metro and succeeded in arresting 10 suspected miscreants otherwise known as ‘kauraye’.

According the Isah those arrested are
Hafiz Iliyasu, Abubakar Habibu, Nura Lawal, and Aliyu Yusuf

Others include Umar Sani, Imrana Abubakar, Muhammadu Sabo, Ismaila Sanusi, Ibrahim Abdulmalik and Ibrahim Habibu all between the ages of 20 to 25 yrs of various addresses in Katsina.

” In the course of investigation, some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, Second die solution, and cutlass were recovered from their possession.”

He noted that the Command succeeded in arresting one Abdulkadir Abdulkarim, m, aged 50yrs of Dauki village, Batsari but now residing at Modoji Quarters, Katsina, who alledged to have raped two minor girls of the ages of 3 and 5yrs.

” In the course of investigation, suspect confessed to have committed the offence” he added that investigation is ongoing.
