The Jigawa State Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Alhaji Garba Muhammad has ordered for a mass sensitization and englightment campaigns at all levels against inappropriate blockage of drainages and waterways to avert flood and consequences in the state.
He disclosed this to Journalists after his meeting with the Head of Crises Management and Divisional Officers from across 27 LGA in the State.
He said it becomes imperative for the Command as one of the Agencies saddled with the responsibility of managing disaster in the country as contained in the NSCDC Act 2007 ( as amended) to issue an early warning against the danger associated with the dumping of refuse in drainages and waterways to avert flood.
” Following the recent release of the 2021 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SPC) by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) showing rainfall distributions across the country.”
The Commandant made reference to the wanton destruction of lives and property recorded last year despite the warning issued.
” The Command will not relent in its efforts in safeguarding the lives and property of the general public
“And warned that any caught blocking drainages and waterways will be sanctioned”.
Alhaji Garba Muhammad stressed the significance of community mobilization and participation as the modern way of overcoming environmental and social challenges.
