Nigerian Correctional Service Releases Names and Pictures of Owerri’s Fleeing Inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Services has released the pictures and names of inmates who recently escaped from Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State.

The Spokesperson of the Service Francis Enabore said effort are on top to get the clear pictures of blank spaces contained in the the overall list of escaped inmates it unveiled.

Recalled that Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo state has been attacked by gunmen and forcefully released a total of 1,844 inmates in custody.

Speaking to justice watch news National Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service NCoS Francis Enabore urged Public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person to the Service or nearest security agencies formation.

” Escaped inmates have traveled to different part of the country, we are making progress to bring them back to our custody

Some have already returned back on their own. We are calling on people to assist with the intelligence on where about of fleeing inmates”. Francis stated.

Acting Controller General of Corrections, John Mrabure has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

The Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has paid fines and compensation of 136 offenders in the various custodial centres in the spirit of eid-el-kabir celebration in the State.

The Governor who was in the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron-Dutse, Kano, also gave N5000 to each of the released offenders as transport fare to their various communities.

He urged the offenders who benefitted from the gesture to repent from the sin they committed.

He further advised them to refrain from criminal acts that may bring them back to the custodial centre, urging them to engage in productive venture to better their lives and that of the communities.

Welcoming the Governor to the custodial centre, the Controller of Corrections, Kano state Command, Suleiman T. Suleiman, appreciated the gesture.

He stated that the gesture by the Governor will go a long way to decongest the custodial centres in the state.

According to the statement by DSC Musbau Lawal K/Nasarawa, Command Public Relations Officer added that the Governor further donated Cattles, Rams and food items for the inmates to celebrate sallah.

Group Conducts Medical Outreach at Kano Central Custodial Centre

A non-governmental organization, Dr. James King Foundation ok on Saturday carried out a medical outreach in the Kano Central Custodial Centre, Kurmawa.

In a statement by DSC Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa, CPRO, said the aim is to provide medical aid to the inmates in custody.

The founder of the foundation, Dr. James King, in an address said that the foundation has a mandate of providing succour to the less privileged through provision of medical services.

He said that this is the second time the foundation will be extending such gesture to custodial facility, the first was in the year 2017.

He further stated that the target of the medical outreach in the custodial centre is to attend to between 500 to 600 inmates.

They will examine and treat various medical conditions such as anaemia, hypertension, heart diseases, severe malaria and many other ailments.

He also said that in his entourage are various health professionals who have the passion to render pro bono health services to the less privileged.

Welcoming the medical team to the facility, the Controller of Corrections, Suleiman T. Suleiman who was represented by the officer-in-charge of the custodial centre, ACC Muazu Tukur, appreciated the foundation for the kind gesture.

The ACC who was visibly elated called on other well-placed individuals in the society to borrow a leaf from the foundation.

Apart from conducting tests and medical investigation on the beneficiaries, the foundation also donated drugs and provisions to the inmates.

Four Awaiting Trial Inmates Escaped From Jos Custodial Centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed that four Awaiting Trial Inmates
escaped from Jos Custodial Centre at about 0200hrs on Friday

Yusuf Adamu. Occupation: Farmer. Address: Barki Ladi, Plateau State. Offence: Crim/Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and Kidnapping. Tribe: Fulani

Sadiq Jeji. Offence: Crim/Conspiracy and armed robbery. Address: Barkin Ladi, Plateau State. Occupation: Herder. Tribe: Fulani

” I can confirm that at the early hours of today exactly 2:00 am , four(4) awaiting trial persons(male) of Jos Custodial Center, Plateau State escaped from the Prison facility.”
