Consider Timing and Consequences of your Action NBA Urges JUSUN.


The President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Olumide Akpata has said that the Association is discussing with Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria JUSUN over the industrial action begins today by the union to demand for the implementation of Financial Autonomy for Judiciary Staff.

President Akpata in a statement he signed noted that NBA is concerned about the timing of the strike and its devastating consequences it will pose for justice Administration in the country, particularly on the heels of prolonged lull of judicial activities caused by covid-19 pandemic and the enforced lockdown in the country.

“Across the country, the courts are trying to play catch up for the lost time and it would be catastrophic for the adminstration of justice for the court to be shut down again.

“This is not to mention the adverse of economic consequences for family of lawyers alike who earn a living in one way or the other, by providing a various support services to the court system”.

The President Maintained that NBA as a leading stakeholder in the administration of justice in Nigeria is total support for the demands of JUSUN lamenting that the Association has been a constant voice of advocacy towards enthroning judicial autonomy but the timing of action is as the action itself.

He further said NBA is deeply worried that despite the clear provision of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) which concrete the autonomous of judiciary decried that Executive Arm of Government, particularly at state level has customarily refused to comply with the provision of the constitution which are targeting at safeguarding the independence of judiciary.

He urged Judicial Staff as well as Executive Government at all levels to find a lasting solution to the current quagmire and move administration of justice forward in the country.
