20-year-old man arrested over death of girlfriend

Jigawa State Police Command of Nigeria Police has arrested one Abubakar Abdullahi, 20, over the death of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Habiba Samaila.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Command’s Spokesperson disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

He said the suspect, a resident of Koral village Garki LGA was alleged to have been a boyfriend of the deceased.

He also said the suspect was allegedly last seen together with the deceased.

The PPRO further said “on 15th Aug. 2023 at about 2000hrs, one Malam Samaila ‘m’ age 50yrs of Beguwa village, reported at Ringim Police station that, on 14th Aug. 2023 at about 2000hrs, his biological daughter one Habiba Samaila ‘f’ age 17yrs of the same address, left house and all efforts to locate her proved abortive.”

According to Shiisu “report revealed that, on the same date, the said Habiba was seen with one Abubakar Abdullahi ‘m’ age 20yrs of Koral village Garki LGA, who happened to be her boyfriend.”

He pointed out that on receipt of the information, the suspect was immediately arrested.

He noted that afterwards, on 16th Aug. 2023 at about 1800hrs, her decayed body was found deposited in a well, tied up with a rope.

He explained that fter evacuation, the body was taken to General Hospital Ringim for medical examination and, thereafter, confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

DSP Shiisu similarly said “On 15th Aug. 2023 at about 1330hrs one Musa Hassan ‘m’ of Shagari Quarters Kazaure LGA, reported at Kazaure Police station that, sometime in June 2023, when he came back from a journey, he discovered that unknown persons trespassed into his house and made away with some of his valuable items, which includes; Television set, set of sound system, one tablet phone, native caps, and other items.”

He further explained that the complainant also reported that he received a text message from someone demanding money, with the Phone Number of his late elder sister Binta Mohammed, which is the number of the sim card in the stolen tablet Phone.

The Jigawa PPRO maintained that “On receipt of the report, the DPO made further efforts, and the number was tracked and one Ibrahim Abba ‘m’ age 20yrs of Galadanchi quarters Kazaure LGA, was arrested in possession of the said SIM card.

He explained that, on interrogation, the suspect made confessional statement to be a fraudster and mentioned one Umar Yahaya ‘m’ age 17 of Kofar Duzau quarters Kazaure LGA as the person who gave him the sim card.

“The said Umar Yahaya was also arrested and confessed to be the one who trespassed into the house of the complainant and carted away the items.”

He further maintained that “When a search was conducted at the premises of the suspect Ibrahim Abba, the following exhibits were recovered; two ATM cards, and fifteen SIM cards.”

He further stated that further report from B/Kudu Division revealed that, on 21st Aug. 2023 at about 1120hrs, one Yakubu Auwalu Makama ‘m’ 27yrs of Kaduna state in company of one Shafi’u Yunusa ‘m’ 27yrs of Mandawari quarters Kano state, reported that, on 15th Aug. 2023 at about 1450hrs, one Abubakar Yakubu ‘m’ of Daurawa village B/Kudu LGA, called him on phone and told him that, they are herders and on their way back from Nasarawa State, they came across a box hidden in the bush, loaded with United State Dollars currency, and now looking for someone to buy the Dollars with Nigerian currency.

“The suspect lured them to B/Kudu and sent his cohort one Yusuf Salisu ‘m’ age 21yrs of B/Kudu LGA, who pretended to be an Okada man to convey them to the bush where the business would be carried out.”

He also added that Police team from B/Kudu Division got wind of the happenings, rushed to the scene and arrested the Okada man for interrogation.

He revealed that thereafter, a team of Policemen led by the Divisional Crime Officer proceeded to the village for possible arrest of the principal suspect.

“But on arrival, the suspect having sighted the Police team, escaped and fled to an unknown destination.” He stated

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam noted that all suspects arrested will be arraigned before the court to face the full wrath of the law upon completion of the investigation at SCID Dutse.
