Importation of Motorcycle Attributes to Rising Insecurity In Nigeria – Communications Scholar



A Senior lecturer from the department of Communications Bayero University Kano Dr. Bala Muhammad has attributed five Pillars who are  responsible for the rising of insecurity in Nigeria.

Dr. Bala stated this during a 2 day International Community of Red Cross (ICRC) and Media workshop on Humanitarian Reporting held in Jos ,Plateau state Capital.

He said the Pillars are: Gun, Drug, Forest Motorcycle and Security Impunity.

He further said forest were used as criminal hideout, noting that it is no go area for common man. His words ” making it a favourable place to plan, coordinate attack in communities, securities and everyone on sight.Humanitarian Services Vs Covid-19 Pandemic

“You know in Islam we have five Pillars which shahadatu Allah ilaha illallah wa’anna Muhammadan RASULULLAH, five daily prayers, fasting, pilgrimage and giving zakkat. Likewise according to my research, insecurity in Nigeria has five pillars which are Guns, Drugs, Forest, Motorcycle/vehicles and Security Impunity unity,”

Dr Bala Muhammad a practising Journalist over decade hinted that until the effect of those Pillars were addressed, Nigeria will continue to experience rising of insecurity challenges in all its knocks and crannies.

He urged the participants who were selected from different media outlets to digest the problem and use their medium in disseminating the information to the general public for better understanding.

“From Boko Haram, Banditry, Kidnapping when ever those people are depeated when you go to the place were they use to stay you will find covers of drugs”.

The veteran journalist also said the importation of Motorcycle is helps  armed robers to easily operates in almost all the type of Forest in Nigeria, urging the stakeholders concerned to suspend the importation of the cycle as a means in reducing the crisis in the Nigeria.

Earlier, the Communications Coordinator of Red Cross Society of Nigeria Mr. Robin Waudo said the workshop was Organized to have a dialogue with the Practicing Journalists on the activities of ICRC and to build their capacity on humanitarian reporting.

Mr Waudo said at the end of the workshop, participants were expected to know more on reporting causes of conflicts and ways of addressing the them rather than concentrating on the effect of those conflicts.

“Beside assisting people or victims of conflict, we also work to promate international humanitarian law who’s aim is to protect people affected by conflict expecially those that are wounded or sick”.

The coordinator also said a similar workshop will be conducted later this year in Northeastern Nigeria were millions of people were directly or indirectly affected by armed conflict.

In a remark, the ICRC Communications spokesperson in Nigeria, Aliyu Dawube said the workshop centered on training Journalists on reporting humanitarian issues when ever conflict arise rather than t paying much attention on  the  number of people killed or casuality.

Dawube said his Organization has identified journalist as a  key actors in rendering humanitarian activities, stressed  the need  for them to identify the root causes of any conflict rather than concentrating of casualties or number dead body.

NBA condemns attack on Delta court by thugs




The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA , Warri Branch has condemned the attack on the Delta State High Court 4 by thugs in Warri South Local Government Area.

The NBA in a statement signed by its Chairman, Emmanuel .O. Uti and Mr. Joseph A Omonoseh, Secretary respectively expressed shock and sadness over the unprovoked attack and invasion by the thugs.

The NBA noted that the act led to the disruption of court proceedings in a suit challenging the succession to the stool of the Olu of Warri Kingdom which was ongoing peacefully.

The NBA said the hoodlums who were armed with dangerous weapons, chased away judicial staff, litigants, lawyers including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN who was representing one of the parties and disrupted the proceedings.

The NBA condemned the act describing it as despicable and a desecration of the hallowed temple of Justice.

“The NBA Warri branch condemns in totality this unprovoked attack and barbaric behaviour by the hoodlums/thugs and therefore calls on the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and the Director of State Security Services to immediately set up a team of investigators to unmask the perpetrators of this reprehensible act.

“We also call on Security Operatives to immediately set in motion measures to nip in the bud this ugly trend by providing adequate security in and around the Court premises in Delta State to prevent a reoccurrence of this ugly trend.


“We advise the players in the ongoing succession tussle to sheath their swords and allow peace and the law to take its full course as we cannot afford to see our peaceful and loving Warri Kingdom engulfed by the flames of crisis.”

Police In Kaduna Warns Protesters Against Violating Due Process




Kaduna State Commission of Police Umar Muri has warned all Interest Groups who want to protest in the state to consider following due process and avoid incessant high blockade, stressing that violators will be treated according to the extant statutory laws of the land.

The statement said the Command is however, perturbed with the recent activities of some communities engaging in protest and the untoward blocking of highways with its attendant troubles for innocent commuters. emphasizing that such trend will not be tolerated and the acts will be viewed seriously according to extant laws of the land.

It added that the Command is working round the clock to ensure that normalcy is restored and would not fold it hands to be distracted in as much as protest cannot be seen as the solution to the current situation.

” The Command is therefore advising all interest groups and communities to always go through appropriate channel with their grievances as the Command’s door is always open to complaints and other security related issues from all quarters whereas insecurity is localized and the best approach to tackling it is by Police community engagement.

The congress also appealed to members of pen pushing profession to always work within the boundaries of the profession for better service delivery.

In the communique the congress condoles with Maryam Yakasai over the death of her mother.
