EXCLUSIVE: Leadership Tussle Rocks Vigilante Group In Kano



Following claim and counter claim by two warring faction over a leadership tussle currently rocking a Vigilante Group in Kano, tonques are now wagging as to who is the genuine commander of the group.

In his submission, Muhammad Kabir Alhaji Popularly known as Mk Alhaji said he is the genuine commander of the group, and acccording to him his action was predicated on the letter by Special Services Directorate, Office of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Government House, dated April 21,2021, which Informed Commissioner of Police that Ubale Barau Badawa was suspended from the Group.

According to the letter written and signed by Principal Assistant Secretary of the Directorate, Umar S. Mukthar alleged that Barau was suspended due to his unwholesome  character capable of tarnishing the image of voluntary security outfit.

The letter also alleged that Badawa has been parading himself as Commander of the Group and unilaterally designated some operatives to serve as his commanders in 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

” Similarly, in order to avoid the eruption of crises and taking cognizant the contributions the group is rendering to the state security

” The Directorate deems it necessary to inform you that the State commander recognized by State Government is Muhammad K. Alhaji and 44 Local Council Commanders under him”

Similarly in a letter by Kano State Ministry for Local Government addressed to Interim Management Officer (IMO) Nassarawa LGA Council Kano dated 31 October, 2016 and signed by Muhammad Garba Tsanyawa a Deputy Director Local Government Inspection said the ministry supported the suspension of Nassarawa LGA Commander Ubale Barau Badawa following the series of misconduct and activities sabotaging security in the state.

Muhammad Kabir Alhaji explained that he is the genuine commander in the state for the fact that the state government supported his group activities with patrol vehicles and and inviting him to attend Government activities to represent Vigilante Group.

Also responding to the allegations levelled against him, Ubale Barau Badawa argued that Muhammad Kabir Alhaji was formerly with Vigilante Group of Nigeria ( VGN) and later boycotted the Group on his own and established his own security outfit with the name Neighborhood Watch Security.

Ubale Barau Badawa through his spokesman, his Faction’s commander in Fagge LGA, Usman Muhammad Dandaji explained that Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) is over 30 years old in the Country.

Barau alleged that Mk Alhaji was formerly with Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and decided broke away on his own.

” We urged him to stop parading himself as Commander of Vigilante since there is a Gazette in Kano house of Assembly with the Name Neighborhood Watch Security not Vigilante.

He maintained that Neighborhood Watch was not as old as Vigilante.

” I can assure you that Ubale Barau Badawa is the Commander of Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Kano While MK Alhaji steer the Affairs of Neighborhood Watch Security Group in the State.”

” Our Group urged him to stop using our Logo and Kits”

” The Security Challenges bedeviling North and Nigeria let us focus on providing Security rather than accusing ourselves”

Speaking to Journalists on 27th, March, 2021, the Commander General, Vigilante Group of Nigeria,(VGN) Navy Captain Umar Bakori when he came to Kano to inspect Group’s Secretariat building at Ladanai in Nassarawa LGA, confirmed that Ubale Barau Badawa is the only and recognize commander of (VGN) in Kano State. He urged all stakeholders to take note.

Moreover, in a letter of reconciliation and Peace Accord dated 11 July, 2020, initiated by Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) of the Kano Command of Nigeria Police, the letter with the Heading ‘ RECONCILIATION MEETING BETWEEN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH AND VIGILANTE ALL OF KANO STATE’ said ” Reference to our discussion at State Headquarters, where we had opportune to be granted to go and reconciled between the two warring faction” during the reconciliation meeting held at SIB Kano
the two Factions agreed on the following Resolutions

1. That no group will again enforce its will over the other or use other faction kits.

2. Groups shall respect each other with dignity

3. Each Group shall operate within its Organization.

Responding to the question that Kano State Government recognises MK Alhaji as genuine commander, Ubale Barau Badawa alledged that he has been making a lot of efforts to pay a courtesy visit to Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, State Commissioner for Local Government to clear himself but all prove abortive.

He appealed to media to stop calling MK Alhaji the Commander of Vigilante Group of Nigeria saying he is Commander of Neighborhood Watch Security.

” It is the issue of Neighborhood WatchSecurity and Vigilante Group of Nigeria”.

NBA condemns attack on Delta court by thugs




The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA , Warri Branch has condemned the attack on the Delta State High Court 4 by thugs in Warri South Local Government Area.

The NBA in a statement signed by its Chairman, Emmanuel .O. Uti and Mr. Joseph A Omonoseh, Secretary respectively expressed shock and sadness over the unprovoked attack and invasion by the thugs.

The NBA noted that the act led to the disruption of court proceedings in a suit challenging the succession to the stool of the Olu of Warri Kingdom which was ongoing peacefully.

The NBA said the hoodlums who were armed with dangerous weapons, chased away judicial staff, litigants, lawyers including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN who was representing one of the parties and disrupted the proceedings.

The NBA condemned the act describing it as despicable and a desecration of the hallowed temple of Justice.

“The NBA Warri branch condemns in totality this unprovoked attack and barbaric behaviour by the hoodlums/thugs and therefore calls on the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and the Director of State Security Services to immediately set up a team of investigators to unmask the perpetrators of this reprehensible act.

“We also call on Security Operatives to immediately set in motion measures to nip in the bud this ugly trend by providing adequate security in and around the Court premises in Delta State to prevent a reoccurrence of this ugly trend.


“We advise the players in the ongoing succession tussle to sheath their swords and allow peace and the law to take its full course as we cannot afford to see our peaceful and loving Warri Kingdom engulfed by the flames of crisis.”

The statement said the Command is however, perturbed with the recent activities of some communities engaging in protest and the untoward blocking of highways with its attendant troubles for innocent commuters. emphasizing that such trend will not be tolerated and the acts will be viewed seriously according to extant laws of the land.

It added that the Command is working round the clock to ensure that normalcy is restored and would not fold it hands to be distracted in as much as protest cannot be seen as the solution to the current situation.

” The Command is therefore advising all interest groups and communities to always go through appropriate channel with their grievances as the Command’s door is always open to complaints and other security related issues from all quarters whereas insecurity is localized and the best approach to tackling it is by Police community engagement.
